I found this guide on updating firmware and what not:

But whatever I am trying, the WiFi network Exploit is not showing up. Anyone who as an idea on how to revive the device? Or should I simply order a new one?

And finally, it worked: you have to run the Nodemcu Firmware Programmer as administrator, else it won’t work. Even though no errors are shown.
